Feeling pain during or immediately after sexual intercourse (dyspareunia) is commonly known as a problem experienced only by women. However, men can also experience severe pain during sexual intercourse, erection, or ejaculation. Within the scope of male sexual health, the causes and treatment of painful intercourse (dyspareunia) in men are meticulously planned in modern andrology clinics.
Most Common Causes of Dyspareunia in Men
The main urological conditions that cause pain during intercourse in men include:
- Chronic Prostatitis (Prostate Inflammation): The most common cause of deep pain felt in the testicles, groin, and tip of the penis during or after ejaculation. Inflammation of the prostate gland irritates the ejaculatory duct.
- Peyronie's Disease (Penile Curvature): Bending of the penis during erection due to hard plaques inside the penis, causing severe stretching pain.
- Short Frenulum and Tearing: Pain or tearing of the frenulum (the band of tissue under the penis) due to stretching.
- Phimosis (Tight Foreskin): In uncircumcised men, the inability to retract the foreskin, causing tightness and pain during intercourse.
- Urethral Infections: A burning sensation during intercourse and ejaculation due to inflammation of the urinary tract (urethritis).
Treatment Methods
Treatment for male dyspareunia is based on the underlying cause. In prostatitis cases, targeted long-term antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatments are used; for Peyronie's patients, intra-plaque injections or surgical corrections are performed; and for a short frenulum, a frenuloplasty operation is utilized to completely eliminate the pain.
