For patients receiving pelvic floor botox, the transition to their first intercourse is a moment of excitement and anxiety. In this article, I explain the post-botox recovery and intercourse guidelines.
First 7 Days (The Latency Phase)
It takes about 5 to 7 days for the botulinum toxin to bind and relax the muscle fibers fully. No intercourse attempts should be made during this first week. The patient can carry on with daily life.
Resuming Intercourse
After the 7th day, clinical guidelines for penetration are introduced. Since pelvic muscles are relaxed, entry occurs painlessly. This resets the brain's alarm response, achieving permanent resolution within 4-6 months of consistent sexual activity.
