The Link Between Varicocele and Male Infertility

  • Sperm DNA Fragmentation: Genomic integrity is compromised, which may lead to reduced fertilization rates or increased risk of early pregnancy loss.

Diagnosis and Clinical Grading

Diagnosis relies on a physical examination performed by a urologist/andrologist with the patient standing, complemented by the Valsalva maneuver. Color Doppler Ultrasound of the scrotum is routinely used to quantify venous diameter and confirm retrograde blood flow.

Treatment Options and Fertility Recovery

Microsurgical Varicocelectomy is considered the gold standard surgical intervention. Utilizing high-magnification operating microscopes, dilated veins are ligated while preserving testicular arteries and lymphatic channels. Following surgery, significant improvements in sperm concentration, motility, and DNA integrity are typically observed within 3 to 6 months.
